ODW is happy to share the following open datasets called “starter packs” for encouraging community participation in identifying tools and technologies that could be useful for research and exploring digitized content, including newspaper content.

This is an approach pioneered by the BnL Open Data project from the National Library of Luxembourg, part of the BnL strategy to participate in Luxembourg’s “open data” economy. The results have been remarkable, for example, a senior economist at PricewaterhouseCoopers has used the data to explore food prices in the 1870s

We invite you to download the following files to explore other tools and development opportunities for digital collections.

The included files are chosen for being in the Public Domain based on Canadian Copyright laws and to offer a variety of simple and complex objects for testing. Accompanying XML records and record sets (.txt files) include the most salient data about/from the items as outlined in the starter package lists.
