The Virtual Museum of Canada has opened up its annual call for applications for its Exhibits Investment Stream. This funding, up to $250,000, can pay for digitization, metadata, research, curation, writing, and creating virtual exhibits on a subject of your choice. This is a great opportunity to digitize a special collection that will benefit from contextualization, research, and wider public engagement.

The Virtual Exhibits investment stream helps Canadian museums and heritage organizations develop online products that engage audiences of all ages, interests and abilities in Canada’s history, heritage and culture.

For the 2019 Call for Proposals, eligible institutions are invited to submit a proposal for an online product on the subject of their choice. This type of product provides a complete online experience for users; content can be consumed in any location, without specialized equipment. Examples include virtual exhibits, virtual tours, web-based games, web applications, educational resources, and more. Eligible institutions are invited to submit a proposal for an online product on the subject of their choice.

Online products that receive funding through the Virtual Exhibits investment stream must be available online in both English and French for a period of five years following the launch of the product.

The deadline to submit your proposals is October 23, 2019. The deadline to submit a quick pitch for VMC feedback is July 17.

Let us know if we can help you write your project plan or budget for digitization, metadata, or using the Exhibits module of our VITA Digital Toolkit, or if you have questions about how VITA fits the technical specifications of the VMC.
